Vickie Ostendorf: founder of Lifecycle.
It was Vickie’s lifelong dream to do something very special for a charity and people in need. Early in 2007, she decided to organise a bike ride as a method of raising funds. At this time she had not yet selected a charity to be the beneficiary of the funds raised. After discussions with friends, she decided that Lifeline Canberra would be the beneficiary of any funds raised during the 2007, 2008 and 2009 charity bike ride. Vickie had never organised a charity fund raiser and she herself had not been on a bicycle for 17 years. This naturally became a challenge in many ways. With tremendous support from family, friends and sponsors, Vickie gradually saw her dream come to fruition. Being a total amateur was never going to stop her from making it successful.
The words life and cycle were a natural choice as it was intended that funds raised should aim at improving the quality of life for those in need, and as the fund raiser would be in the form of a bicycle ride made those words the most natural choices.
Vickie was totally overwhelmed by the amount of riders, sponsors and supporters that came forward to help her with her dream for the inaugural 2007 charity bike ride. She is extremely thankful that there are people out there who are so ready and willing to help a charity.
